The Rogers family has been ranching in the same
location in Mississippi since 1926, breeding Charolais cattle since 1959
and performance testing since 1961, making us one of the oldest performance
tested herds in the nation using BIF guidelines.
Harlan Rogers, owner and founder of Rogers Bar HR, has been on almost
every committee and has held all offices within the American
International Charolais Association (AICA). These facts make him
sound old, but points out that he has been involved. He has made
selections
from more than 10,000 cows in the last 45 years - keeping the best for
the
present herd.
Rogers
Bar HR uses all modern technology available such as AI, ET,
sonogram, computer assisted mating and EID. As a result, they have
the best EPDs in the nation. We believe in EPDs and have made
more progress since we began using them intensely than all
previous
years combined. If you believe in EPDs, allow us to send you
information that will familiarize you with the progress made and where
we now stand.
Our Annual Bull Sale is held on the second Saturday
in March where
we usually sell about 100 Charolais bulls and 100 Commercial Brangus
heifers. Their Annual Female Sale is held the first Saturday
in May where they sell about 100 purebred Charolais females. At
Rogers Bar HR, we are proud of our cattle and enjoy "showing
them off" -- especially in the spring when everything is pretty. Consider
this your standing invitation to visit. Please give us a call
2-3 days prior to your visit, if possible.
Harlan and his wife, Dorotheann, consider themselves very fortunate
to have their 3rd son, Doug, taking over and managing the ranch. He
is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and
also has his MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi. He
understands computers and cattle and has been involved in the cattle
operation since he was five years old.
Rogers Bar HR is located about 90 miles north of the
Gulf Mexico in the rolling hills of the Coastal Plains. South Mississippi gets
approximately 65" of rainfall
each year. Most of the soil is well drained internally and externally. The
winters are mild which allows them to grow excellent annual rye grass
and clovers in the winter and spring. They have improved the
quality of their land as they improved the quality and quantity of
their cattle. This makes Rogers Bar HR highly competitive in
the purebred and commercial beef cattle industry.
Harlan and his sons background around 20,000 commercial heifers
and feed many of them with AzTx and Friona Industries. We
usually have
around 200 replacement commercial Brangus heifers and 600 head
of registered Charolais of which almost all are polled. They
are run
on about 3,000 acres of land located very near the intersection of US
Highways 84 and 49, sixty miles south of Jackson, twenty miles north
of
Hattiesburg and one hundred twenty-five miles northeast of New Orleans.
